Chocolate Fudge Brownies...MMMMM!

Posted by Leigh M on Thursday, September 30, 2010, In : Pure Products
This afternoon as I was driving home from work, I got the urge for a nice warm brownie... man I love cravings sometimes! I was in a bit of a rush today, and didn't have time to make my own from scratch. So I popped into one of my favourite local health food stores, Ye Olde Health Shoppe in Bowmanville. I was looking around at the pre-mixed brownies when I noticed a new line I'd never seen before... PUREST. Being Pure Life Wellness and all, I thought, heck I'll try this! Ingredients looked gre...

Vegetarianism?

Posted by Leigh M on Tuesday, September 28, 2010, In : Vegetarianism
A personal tale....

I have been a flip flopping vegetarian for quite a while. I have fought with myself over whether or not I should eat meat, reduce my intake, or just go off of it all together. I have done all of the mentioned at some point in my life. I have O type blood, which means I should be a meat eater, and sometimes I do get intense meat cravings and severe dips in energy when I don't get enough protein (not just animal based, but also alternative sources)- which leaves me in a very ...

One of the biggest hurdles most University and College students face is finances. Rightly so, tuition is expensive, books aren’t cheap and many students are balancing their cheque books for the first time in their lives. It is more closely related to vegetables (like beets, spinach and chard) than it is to grains, however it is commonly classified as a grain.

The reason quinoa is a favourite of mine is because it is such a versatile, nutrient dense food, readily available and very affordable. I also love this food because it i...

What if I told you "Sugar-free" could really= Weight-gain?

Posted by Leigh M on Monday, September 20, 2010, In : Aspartame
It is often believed that there are 2 contributing factors to weight gain: sugar and fat. And while yes, in some cases this can be quite true, it isn't the end-all-be-all for leading a healthy lifestyle. In my experience, I find that most of my clients look at 5 main categories on a food label: Fat, Sugar, Sodium (salt), Calories and Carbohydrates. This is a good place to start, however it doesn't tell the whole story.

The media has done a brilliant job at brain-washing us to believe that 'su...

Bee Pollen

Posted by Leigh M on Monday, September 6, 2010, In : Superfoods

The records of bee pollen being capable of extending ones life dates back to the beginning of civilization. The Chinese emperor Shen Nung compiled a medical encyclopedia back in 2735 BC which examines the bee hive products.

Much of the modern research on bee pollen has been carried out in Europe. Unfortunately in the 1940’s in North America, this was the genre of pharmaceutical drugs and many natural, traditional therapies and products were lost in mass production of drugs.
